The online education industry has exploded in recent years. It’s on track to be a $325 billion dollar industry by 2025. If you’re a business owner and know you have valuable information you can share with others, you definitely want to think about creating an online course.

You might be thinking, “But I barely have time to even eat throughout the day, let alone have enough time to create an entire online course!”

You’re right, creating a course does seem like a daunting and time-consuming task, but if you’re organized and prepared enough, you will be able to create an entire online course packed with value in no time!

As I mentioned, the key here is to be organized and be prepared, meaning you want to have all your content and resources organized and have an in-depth plan prepared before you actually begin creating your course. Today, I will walk you through exactly how to do that!

Get Clear

If you’re already an online business owner, you should know what topic you want to focus on for your course and have an in-depth understanding of your target audience.

The next step is to create a detailed outline of your course based on the core learning objectives you want to focus on. Your learning objectives are like stepping stones that will guide your students from where they currently are to where they want to be.

Once you create a detailed outline of your course, you will have a clear roadmap to follow that will help make creating your course a breeze!

Gather Your Information

This is the point where most people tend to procrastinate because it requires you to gather all the information and content for the course.

You can combat this procrastination by breakdown each step of this process into a bite-size piece. First, gather all the information you think might be useful for your course. Next, take a look at each of your learning objectives. For each objective, add in only the information that will help your students achieve that specific objective.

Be sure not to include unnecessary information that does not directly pertain to learning objectives. This method will help ensure that the information you include in your course is actually valuable to your students.

Creating The Course

Now, when it comes to actually creating the course, you will have a very detailed outline of your course complete with all the information you want it to include.

The next step is to script each module of the course. For every video or recording you plan on including in the course, you should write a script to make the recording process easier. This step seems hard but it isn’t. Since you already have a detailed outline of each module, all you need to do is fill in the gaps!

After you write your scripts, you will want to create the visuals for your course (i.e. the presentation slides you show during each video). These don’t have to be super intricate – you can create a simple PowerPoint presentation or use Canva to easily add in visuals.

The next thing you want to create are the resources you will include in each module. This can include readings, external sources, worksheets, etc. The resources will help your students apply the information that you teach them.

The final step is to start recording! This step will be easy and quick to complete because you will already have a script that will tell you exactly what to say and visuals you can reference as you record.

Ta da! Your course is complete! Although course creation seems like a time-consuming and daunting task, with the right preparation, you can create an online course in no time! One of the many benefits of having your own app is having the ability to house your courses on your app. If you’re not already a 22apps member, you can get started totally free right now!
