How to Stay Productive (Even in a Digital World)

October 27, 20224 min read

Being an entrepreneur can sometimes feel like being a hamster stuck running on a wheel. You run and run at full speed all day, and at the end of the day, you feel like you got nowhere.

When you aren’t intentional about setting up your day in a productive way, you will always feel like you never get anything accomplished. Distractions are everywhere and our attention spans are short, so it’s important to have some productivity strategies put in place to ensure you make the most of your workdays!

Here are 6 easy and effective ways you can stay productive even while being a busy entrepreneur.

1. Write down your goals

Every week, month, and day, you should actually sit down and write down your goals for that time period. This is not only important for gaining clarity on what you want to accomplish short and long term but actually writing down your goals increases your chances of accomplishing those goals by 42%.

When writing your goals, instead of writing down every single goal you can think of for the month, week, or day, you should narrow in on the top 3 things you want or need to accomplish during that time period. This will help keep you focused and keep your priorities in order so you can accomplish what you need to.

2. Do your most dreaded task first

An easy way to beat procrastination and stay productive all day is to do your most dreaded task first. When we have something on our to-do list that makes us cringe at the thought of doing it, we tend to procrastinate our entire to-do list for that day.

When you do your most dreaded task first thing, you end up feeling super accomplished right off the bat, and feel motivated to keep going and crush the rest of your to-do list for the day!

3. Use time blocks

Working in time blocks can help you accomplish a lot more in a lot less time. Take notice of your most productive times of the day – is it early in the morning and late at night? Right in the middle of the day? Maybe in the middle of the night?

Trying to work when you have no motivation or desire to do so can even make simple, quick tasks take forever. When you schedule your work in time blocks during your most productive times of the day, you can get way more work done!

The best way to schedule your time blocks is to break them down. For example, having 30 minutes sessions of hard-core focus followed by a 5-minute break. This pattern will help you avoid burnout and minimize distractions while you work.

4. Batch your tasks

A lifesaving productivity hack you should be using is batching your tasks. This means that you break up your tasks into phases and only focus on doing one phase at a time instead of the entire task.

For example, when it comes to content creation, you could use one day of the week to brainstorm and research your content topics for the month, another day to create outlines or scripts, another day to film the content, and a final day to edit the content. This way, you will have a month’s worth of content created in only 4 days.

Batching your tasks helps keep you productive because your mind can focus on one thing at a time and isn’t constantly switching modes.

5. Remove distractions

You probably already know you should keep your work area as distraction-free as possible, but actually implementing this strategy can be hard.

It’s important to be disciplined when it comes to removing distractions. If you know you are easily tempted to check your phone every 10 minutes, you might want to keep it in another room or turn it off while you work.

Removing distractions will help you get into a productivity flow which will help you easily accomplish what you need to throughout the day.

6. Rest

Finally, a productivity tip I know you are going to love! In order to avoid burnout and keep yourself refreshed and ready to work, it’s important to give your mind a break and set aside time to rest every day.

As I mentioned, it’s important as an entrepreneur for you to set up your days strategically with effective productivity strategies so that you can accomplish more throughout your workday. By implementing one or more of these strategies, you will feel more accomplished and motivated as an entrepreneur.
